Sebacic acid is a white flake, powder and belongs to the group of dicarboxylic acids. Its salts and esters are referred as sebacates The reaction with hexamethylene diamine creates a polyamide, called nylon 6.10. The sebacic acid is mainly used as raw material for the production of lubricants and coolants, but also for the production of antifreeze and plasticizers.
Nowadays biobased polymers contain sometimes sebacic acid as well.
Examples of applications
Sebacic acid is mainly used in the production of lubricants and greases, coolants, antifreeze, coatings, plasticizers, polyamides and polyesters.
